Audio and Technology Overhaul

This Vandura arrived completely out of the 90’s with no major upgrades since it was built. The incandescent ambient lights throughout were mostly burnt out. None of the dome lights or reading lights worked. The speakers had completely fallen apart and the head unit in the dash was in need of an upgrade. There had been a backup camera added at one point but it didn’t work. It was time for some upgrades.

The Vision

We wanted to upgrade all of the lighting in the vehicle to RGB LED lighting so that the ambient lighting could color change. The TV in the rear was upgraded to a 26 inch LCD screen. The customer wanted to be able to connect new or old school video games to the screen so we needed to give them easy connectivity. The speakers all needed to be upgraded and replaced with something better and needed more power. We also needed to add a subwoofer for better bass. The van is quite large, so upgrading the cameras was also needed.

The Process

We looked to Audiofrog speakers for sound quality and fitment in the locations we had to work with. The dash included a GB40 and GB10 midrange and tweeter under the original dash grilles. We installed Audiofrog GS42 speakers in the middle row pillars and GS62 speakers in the rear. We powered the system by a JL Audio VX800/8i and VX600/1i amplifier combination. The JL Audio HO112W6 subwoofer fit behind the reclining rear seat. We used an iBeam HD digital mirror with an HD camera on the back window for the digital rear view mirror. We also added a backup camera and front camera for easier parking views. The customer wanted that old classic van feel so we added a CB radio and antenna. All of the lighting needed to be replace and upgraded. We built new mounts and buttons for each dome/reading light and upgraded them to white LED. We disassembled the entire rear of the van to replace all accent lighting with RGB LED lighting that can be changed to any color. This was a nice way to utilize the infinity mirror design of the ambient lighting.
