Repairing the Factory Sound System

This vehicle arrived with an aftermarket Alpine head unit but no sound from any speaker.  After booking a diagnostic appointment, we were able to determine all of the speakers in the original JBL sound system worked, however the OEM amplifier had no output.  We needed a new multi-channel amplifier that was small enough to fit in the footprint of the original amplifier and have enough channels and power to run all of the existing original speakers.

The Vision

We needed to get this Ferrari playing music again because the OEM amplifier failed and there was no sound from any speaker. The original speakers still worked and did not need to be replaced at this time, but we needed an amplifier that would be compatible to get this car back on the road.

The Process

Each speaker was first tested to make sure it was working and sounded correct. We tested the output from the Alpine head unit in the dash and it was working properly. The only thing left was to replace the amplifier. We needed to run some wiring and this proved to be a challenge in this car due to every panel overlapping and the tight tolerances. Once we determined that an Audison Forza 12 channel amplifier with DSP would fit our needs, we moved forward with the install.  This amplifier provided enough channels to get all of the original speakers and subwoofer working again. We then tuned the amp using Audison’s Accordo DSP software and placing the measurement microphone in the driver seat to EQ, time and phase align the speakers to the driver.

The Timeline

This was a three day project.
