The factory Harman/Kardon sound system was not good enough

This car has the original BMW premium sound system but the customer wanted something much better. We turned to Focal for a speaker upgrade. They make BMW specific speakers as part of their Focal-Inside lineup. We also went with Focal Flax subwoofers custom mounted into the sides of the trunk. The system is powered by Audison Forza amplifiers.

The Vision

To keep the car functional without much modification internally, but the trunk was fair game to add amplifiers and subwoofers.

The Process

We used Focal IS BMW 100K speakers in the doors to upgrade the 4″ mid-ranges and tweeters. Under the front seats, we replaced the original woofers with Focal ISUB MBW 2 woofers. We used the Focal shallow Flax Sub P 25 FSE subwoofers in each side of the trunk. We custom built enclosure that allowed the majority of the trunk space to remain available for storage. Under the rear floor where the spare tire would be, we installed Audison an Audison Forza AF M8.14 bit eight channel amplifier and a Forza AF M1D subwoofer amplifier. The system was tuned with Audison’s Accordo software.
