2004 Monterey 223
View Case StudyThe original MTX speakers and amplifier were still in place when this boat arrived. It had only four original speakers, two in the cockpit and two in the cabin. We needed more speakers and power to achieve better volume and then we added a pair of subwoofers and new head unit.
We needed to overcome the sound of the motor to be able to hear he system while underway. We knew more speakers and cone area was going to be key. Fortunately this boat had some extra space to add some more speakers.
We doubled the cone area and added a second pair of 6.5″ Hertz speakers by the helm to get more volume. Then we found that the acrylic Fountain logos on either side of the boat by the rear bench seat would perfectly fit new 8 inch speakers, so they were removed and speakers went in their place. These are higher up to disperse sound farther than the front speakers. Under the rear bench was flat enough to accommodate two 10 inch Hertz Marine subwoofers. The pair of 6.5″ speakers in the cabin were also replaced with matching Hertz marine speakers. The system was powered by two JL Audio amplifiers.
This was four day project.
